Leshanda Long of New Haven has been sentenced to three years in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release, after pleading guilty to wire fraud and identity theft in September last year.
Her criminal history includes 21 prior convictions, including convictions for identity theft and larceny. She also has pending state charges for identity theft, forgery, larceny and robbery offenses.
In December 2015, Long stole the identity of a person and used that identity to obtain a credit card, rent an automobile, pay personal expenses and obtain cash advances.
U.S. Attorney John Durham said that surveillance video at a bank ATM captured Long, disguised with an orange scarf and distinctive sunglasses, obtaining cash advances. A subsequent search of Long’s residence found the scarf and sunglasses, as well as the victim’s personal identifying material and the fraudulently obtained credit card.
Long, 37, was arrested on Feb. 24 last year and pleaded guilty on Sept. 7. She has been detained since Oct. 17 last year, when her bond was revoked.
